Cops: Walmart suspects on the way to Georgia


UPDATE: Brandon Smith, 27 and Stephanie Rodriguez, 37 waved extradition in Tennessee and are expected to arrive in Georgia Tuesday night. 

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Covington Police say two people accused of fatally running over a woman in a Walmart parking lot could be responsible for up to 10 violent purse thefts.

According to Covington Police, Brandon Smith, 27 and Stephanie Rodriguez, 37 made a living off of stealing purses.

Hotel manager: Walmart duo was acting "fishy"


 

MANCHESTER, Tenn. -- The hotel manager who ended a multi-state crime spree targeting older women said the suspects caught his attention with their "fishy" behavior. 

Verin Vaidya is the Roadway Inn manager in Manchester, Tenn., just over an hour northeast of Chattanooga.  11Alive's Valerie Hoff was the only Atlanta reporter he spoke with. He told Hoff Brandon Smith and Stephanie Rodriguez checked into the hotel Wednesday, and immediately caught his attention. 

Police release new surveillance video of Walmart hit-and-run suspects


COVINGTON, Ga. -- Police released new surveillance video Friday of two purse thieves who they say killed a woman in a hit-and-run at a Covington Walmart earlier this week.

Covington police have been aggressively working the case since Monday and have issued a $10,000 reward for the suspects' capture, hoping anyone with information will come forward.

Police working major lead in Walmart hit-and-run


COVINGTON, Ga. -- Police say they are working a major lead in a hit-and-run that killed a woman at a Covington Walmart late Monday night.

Investigators are not yet revealing details on the lead as not to interfere with the capture, but they say they have an idea on who and where the driver who ran over 65-year-old Marsha Johnson might be.
