GDOT Continues I-20 Eastbound Resurfacing this Weekend

Atlanta, GA--  Georgia DOT will continue resurfacing in the eastbound lanes this weekend as the project continues on I-20 between Columbia Drive and Turner Hill Road in Dekalb County.  The work begins at 9 p.m. Friday, weather permitting.

This weekend’s work will require that the two left eastbound lanes be closed from Lithonia Industrial Boulevard to Turner Hill Road.  Two right lanes will be open at all times.

Additionally, one lane will be closed on the ramp from I-285 southbound to I-20 eastbound as the contractor works on shoulder paving in the interchange.

“If the weather cooperates, we hope to wrap up all of the paving except the top layer in the two eastbound left lanes,” said DOT Area Engineer Thomas Parker.  “Next weekend we expect to begin the eastbound right lane and the ramps.”

The Department expects heavy delays in the area throughout the weekend. All lanes will be re-opened to traffic by 5:00 a.m. Monday.

The project will continue on weeknights and weekends until Fall, when the temperatures get too cool to pave, and will be completed in the Spring.  The contractors will not close any lanes on holiday weekends.  The work hours are weeknights from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. and on weekends continuously from Friday night at 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Monday.

Georgia DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about this project.
