DINNERS ON A DIME: Cinco de Mayo

DECATUR, Ga. – This week, Dinners on a Dime features local Cinco de Mayo eats. Every Tuesday Where U Live will choose four favorite eats in your area for you to take your family and friends for a fabulous meal, under $20.

At Los Loros Mexican Restaurant the fish tacos are “excellent” and the margaritas are “tasty”. This neighborhood restaurant is a favorite to people who live in the area. Guest favorites include fish tacos and the beef enchilada. The signature margarita is mixed with tequila and Gran Marnier, making it the menu highlight. Visit the restaurant for their Cino de Mayo celebration at 1248 Clairmont Road in Decatur.

The Monterrey Mexican Restaurant in Tucker is known for their Mega-Margaritas, great service and always fresh salsa. On Cinco de Mayo the restaurant will offer food and drink specials, however, nothing on the regular menu exceeds $15.

Join the people of Conyers for a bike ride through Olde Town Conyers. This 4.5 mile group ride is open to kids and adults on the historical streets of Conyers. This ride is held every fourth Sunday of every month. Meet at the railroad depot area at 4:00 p.m.

Check out the Divine Intervention exhibit of African Art and Religion at the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University. This free exhibit is open daily and it showcases different masks and art, along with rituals observed in indigenous African religion.

Callanwolde Fine Arts Center hosts their Tango Night on Friday, April 22. Learn to dance to tango by focusing on rhythm and movement. No partner is necessary and lessons, taught by a Tango expert, begin at 8:00 p.m. And around 9:30 p.m.

Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival to be held, this weekend

CONYERS, Ga. -- The annual Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival will commence at 10 a.m. on March 26 and continue until March 27 at 5 p.m. at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers. More than 300 local and regional vendors are expected.

The event has been a Conyers staple for 30 years and it draws tens of thousands of people. The festival, annually, draws tens of thousands of people. Recently, the festival was named a Top 20 event by the Southeast Tourism Society for March 2011.

According to the Rockdale Citizen “the lineup includes: children’s activities, food, arts and crafts, continuous entertainment, international music and performances, and civic and non-profit organizations. Admission is free. Parking is $5.”

COVINGTON – On Saturday, March 12th, the Heartland Woman’s Club will host their 20th Annual Cherry Blossom Charity Croquet Tournament at the Oxford College of Emory University.

The cost is $50 per player and includes a continental breakfast, lunch and a . Participants are asked to dress in all-white and there will be prizes for the best dressed man and woman.

Conyers Historical Society to host Olde Town Jail Tour

Conyers Historical Society to host Olde Town Jail Tour

CONYERS – This weekend, the Conyers Historical Society will hold their “Olde Town Jail Tour” from 10:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. This tour, which is held on the first Saturday of the month, is an exhibit of what the jail looked like in the late 1800’s. The jail doubles as a museum, which displays different Conyers artifacts.

The tour includes starts downstairs I the sheriff’s house and ends upstairs in the prisoner’s dormitory. The museum is home to many artifacts from Conyers and Milstead: like the first electric stove or the first TV/radio in Conyers.

The jail is located on Milstead Avenue.
