WEEKEND EVENTS: Fly Fishing, Francine Reed and the Family Soulfest

DECATUR -- There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

Kiss 104 FM is hosting their Family Soulfest on June 5 at Stone Mountain Park. The Family Soulfest features field games and live performances by Palmer Williams Jr. and Brick. The festival will culminate with a Lasershow in Mountainvision.

Joe Granderson and Francine Reed are joining forces for a Friday night concert at Eddie’s attic. Eddie’s Attic is located at 515 N. McDonough Street in Decatur. Tickets to the event are $25 at the door.

The Conyers Historical Society’s will be hosting Olde Town Jail Tours on Saturday, June 4. The jail is located on Milstead Avenue and houses a number of historical artifacts from Rockdale County. Tours start at 10:00 a.m. and end at noon.

According to some, Jim and Nick’s BBQ is typical chain barbecue but according to others, it’s the best in town. The restaurant serves up the best fried catfish and isn’t too shabby when it comes to the fixings.

Check out popular folk artists Edie Carey and Rose Cousins at Eddie’s Attic, on Friday, May 21. Food and drinks will be available in the Music Room and out on the rooftop. Tickets will be sold for $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Tickets are available at like www.eddiesattic.com .

Head over to the Spruill Gallery for the final week of the “Out of Print” exhibition. The exhibition celebrates the significance of printmaking and creative and collaborative art. This exhibition showcases a collection of historic Atlanta printmakers as well as local faculty and printmaking students.

DECATUR, Ga. – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

The fourth annual Art-B-Que will be held, this weekend, in the Avondale Estates. This two day festival features food, music, art and fun. This year, acts include: Noot d’Noot, Nine Inch Neils, AM Gold, Mule and Skinner MacQueen. The festival is free of charge. The festival will be held at Railroad Art District, which is located at 2846 Franklin Street in Atlanta.

Fernbank Museum is holding a variety of special archaeology programming throughout May in celebration of Georgia Archaeology Month. On Saturday, May 7, the museum will hold “a family dig for archaeology-themed activities that focus on Native American crafts and technologies”. The dig is included in museum admission and is free to museum members. The dig will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

ATLANTA -- Happy Friday! Celebrate the start of the weekend with a half-price however-you-want-it Frappuccino from Starbucks.

On May 6, participating Starbucks stores will hold the first Frappuccino Happy Hour from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. All flavors and sizes of the popular blended coffee drink are half-price during Happy Hour.

Starbucks is also bringing back two coconut drinks for summer.

The Mocha Coconut Frappuccino is a signature flavor in the chain's Hawaii stores.

ATLANTA -- 11Alive's morning team rolled out the red carpet Monday morning to honor Metro Atlanta's "Class Act" teachers. The 31 men and women were nominated by their peers and students for special recognition for their committment to their classes and students.


On Monday, the 31 educators, their principals and some family and friends joined the 11Alive morning team as a live studio audience.

Atlanta, GA --  On April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and numerous state and local law enforcement agencies will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.  You can bring your medications for disposal to numerous sites across the state and the metro Atlanta area.
