Free jazz concert in downtown Covington

COVINGTON, Ga. -- The city of Covington is bringing back its free summer concert series this year.

On Friday, June 14, Chand Antonio Bennett & NEO4 will perform live at 7 p.m. in Covington Square Park.

Everyone is invited to attend the jazz concert, which is hosted by Main Street Covington & the Arts Association.

Oxford College presents 'The Shape of Things'

OXFORD, Ga. -- Oxford College will stage its spring play, Neil LaBute's The Shape of Things, beginning later this month.

Performances will be held Thursday, Feb. 28 and Friday, Mar. 1 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Mar. 2 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $5; all shows will be held in the college's Tarbutton Theater.

The Shape of Things explores love, intimacy, manipulation and dependency through the lens of the relationships of four college students, according to a release from Oxford College. It was made into a 2003 movie starring Paul Rudd, Rachel Weisz and Gretchen Mol.

Pancake breakfast to benefit county schools

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A Kiwanis pancake-eating contest this weekend will raise money for public schools in Newton County.

The event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Newton College & Career Academy.

Admission to the all-you-can-eat breakfast is $5.

Chick-fil-A Daddy-Daughter Date Night returns in 2013

ATLANTA -- Chick-fil-A's wildly popular Daddy-Daughter Date Night will return in February.

More than 100 Atlanta- and Athens-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host the event on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Every couple in attendance will receive an activity sheet with conversation topics and a booklet called "Continuing the Conversation," which gives the dads and daughters suggestions for getting to know each other better.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we serve," Chick-fil-A area marketing director Robin Lomax said in a statement. "We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage dads to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their daughters' company over a meal and have fun."

Oxford tennis clinics begin Monday

OXFORD, Ga. -- Oxford College is offering winter and spring tennis clinics for children ages 4 and up.

The first session is four weeks long and begins Monday. Five- and six-week sessions will be offered later this year.

The tennis clinics cost $15 for a single class. The four-week session is $50, while the five- and six-week classes are $60 and $70, respectively.

Oxford Youth Singers present 'Les Misérables'

COVINGTON, Ga. -- Les Misérables was one of the most praised and popular movies of 2012.

Now, the Newton County Arts Association will stage a production of the world famous musical this spring.

Les Misérables, performed by the Oxford Youth Singers, will grace the stage of Porter Auditorium on Thursday, Apr. 18 and Friday, Apr. 19 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Apr. 21 at 3 p.m.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students and children.

Porter Auditorium is located on the campus of Newton High School in Covington.
