Expect heavy spring break traffic this weekend

(WXIA) -- Many colleges and universities will begin their spring breaks this weekend, which may contribute to heavier traffic than usual on metro Atlanta roads.

In addition to more people on the road, Georgia Department of Transportation crews will be out and about, working on scheduled projects.

GDOT engineer Shun Pringle said the largest project will be sign installation on Georgia 400 south between Peachtree Road and Sidney Marcus Boulevard. One right lane will be closed daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Work will also continue on the Ga. 400/Interstate 85 Interchange project. Several roads will be affected all weekend, including Cheshire Bridge Road, Sidney Marcus Boulevard and the Buford-Spring Connector.

From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, three lanes in both directions of I-285 will be closed for sign replacements between Riverside Drive and Peachtree Dunwoody Road.

Newton Co. Schools keep calling wrong number

COVINGTON, Ga. – By the sounds of their robocalls, the Newton County School District is quite diligent in making sure parents stay informed.

The only problem: some of those calls have been going to the wrong person.

Dale Callahan called 11Alive News after she said she's received almost daily calls from the district for more than a year. The calls are from Rocky Plains Elementary School, regarding one student. Callahan lives in El Paso, Texas, and says she has never had a child in the Newton County School District.

"I know the parent's name, I know the kid's name," she said. "I know pick-up times, drop-off times. It's just to the point that if I really wanted to walk in there and pretend I was this woman, I could probably do it."

'Officer Morgan' gets new wheelchair to go out on patrol

COVINGTON,Ga. -- "I'm enjoying it because I get to lock a lot of bad guys up," said 'Officer Morgan.'

Morgan Steward is his name, and crime is his game.

You may remember this adorable 5 year-old when he was made an honorary Covington police officer in December.

His story captured the hearts of people around the country. But now Officer Morgan has an even bigger advantage in catching criminals.

He's got the badge, the latest uniform, and now he's got the fanciest wheels in Covington to patrol the sidewalks.

The Covington Police Department partnered with 11Alive in December to honor Morgan on 'Officer Morgan Day' and that's when he was named to the force.  He captivated the city.
